COY’S CORNER
“What Kind of
People Go to Your Church?”
Some might ask this question as they consider attending our
worship services. It is natural for us to
enjoy being around people like ourselves, so some look for a church
filled with folks much like themselves. Some
organizations are designed to include people who are alike with similar
backgrounds, abilities, education levels or wealth.
God’s church is NOT designed with these things in mind. Jesus came to break down the barriers that
often divide people in society and bring us together in Him. Paul said, “For as many of you as have
been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There
is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is
neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians
3:27-28). We also find, “For he is
our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall
of partition between us” (Ephesians 2:14). So
when you visit us you will meet some people like you—and some who are
not just like you.
On any given Sunday, you may find black people, white people,
brown people, and those of other backgrounds. You
will find some people who are financially prosperous and some who don’t
have much money. You will find some who
didn’t finish high school and some with advanced degrees.
You will find old people and young people. You
will find people with “white collar” jobs and “blue collar” jobs. You may find people who are originally from
all parts of the nation. Some of us have very outgoing personalities,
and some of us who are more quiet. We have
many varying likes and dislikes and many different strengths and
weaknesses. We realize that we still have
a long way to go in learning to reach out and accept those who are
different. That’s because we are human and
still imperfect. But we know that is what
God wants us to do.
What is it that holds a diverse group together with all these
differences? It is a common faith in the
Lord Jesus Christ and a common respect for the authority of His Word. God created us vastly different from each
other, but we all want to be more like Jesus. We
all realize that we are saved by the blood He shed on the cross, and we
have a common destiny of eternal life with Christ in heaven! We sometimes sing a song that describes that
kind of unity in these words, “A common love for each other, A
common gift to the Savior, A common bond holding us to the Lord, A
common strength when we’re weary, A common hope for tomorrow, A common
joy in the truth of God’s Word.”—Brent Missildine

From Front Lines...
Most
of you who were at church on Sunday know from my announcement that we
had a very successful turnout at our breakfast on Saturday. We
raised exactly $700, which puts us just over $600 away from reaching
our goal of $4,000.00. Praise God! I want to thank Paula
Morris for helping so much in being our team's captain. She
has put countless hours into making sure our team meets our goal and
she has done a wonderful job. Also a huge thank you goes out
again to those who helped with the breakfast; to those who made and
held up signs, who put up tables, to the money-takers, the cooks, and
of course the clean up crew. And the breakfast could not have
been possible without the donations from Goolsby's Sausage, Billy's
Restaurant, Kingwood Foodland, and Heritage Farms Dairies of
Murfreesboro. Thank you all.
Last week I
noted that this coming Sunday evening, May 4th, we will have our annual
Senior Night. On May 4th, we will honor our Seniors: Michael
Boyd, Cody Deason, and Catherine Stubblefield.
Cody Deason
Catherine
Stubblefield

Michael
Boyd
These three
students will be graduating from their respective schools in the coming
weeks and we want to celebrate with them the accomplishments they have
achieved thus far. So on Sunday, May 4th, after evening service,
we will have a dinner and celebration for them. Their families,
the youth group, the elders and their wives, and all ministers and
their wives are invited to attend.
I hope and
pray that everyone has a blessed week.
